Recurrent in his work is a portrait of what Korine calls the "American Landscape." He recently stated "to me, the most beautiful thing in the world is an abandoned parking lot and a soiled sofa on the edge…" Such a statement gives insight into Korine's complex aesthetic.

Walking his dog late at night in the back alleys of his hometown of Nashville, Korine encountered trash bins strewn across the ground in what he imagined as a warzone. Overhead lights beamed down upon the trash in a Broadway-style that Korine found very dramatic. They began to resemble human form, beaten, abused and “very humpable.”

At the film’s premiere in Toronto, Korine informed the audience that the title was to be taken quite literally and those prone to walking out were given due warning. Aware of his status as the provocateur, Korine understands his movies aren’t for everyone. “That’s why I named it Trash Humpers, because I didn’t want to fool anyone.”

  1. "Previous to Mister Lonely, Korine had written a story about a pig named Trotsky. The film was to take place durring a race war in Florida and have a boy who would saddle the pig, put adhesive on it's feet, climb up walls and throw molotov cocktails. "it was going to be my masterpiece," Korine comments. The script burnt in a fire and Korine spent $11,000 to try and recover it from his computer. He retrieved one sentence."

  2. For some reason, Harmony Korine's wikipedia pages are a gold mine.

Also, I don't believe for a second that he spent 11k on data retrieval, or that he was only able to recover "one sentence." It's a doc file, not a collection of battered manuscript fragments.
